Costume Information

I made this costume after seeing screenshots from the most recent Yu-Gi-Oh! Episodes out in Japan at the time.

The base "dress" was rather simple. What was difficult about this costume was all the jewellery and the wig. I ended up making the jewellery out of vinyl and cording, mostly because it was the only thing I could think of using at the time (the thought of craft-foam armour didn't cross my mind), and because this allowed me to use materials I had at hand. I pretty much made up what I was doing as I went along.

As for the wig... well, that was challenge. I bought a red and black wig. Having never styled a wig like this before, my friend Amanda helped me put it into spikes, showing me how to style this kind of wig in the process. (Thank you, Amanda!) Amanda also helped me add blond hair extensions to the wig. I loooooved this wig when it was done.

I first wore this costume (minus the cape and necklace, which disappears when he's not wearing the cape o___O;) to see Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Movie in theatres. A bunch of my friends also came in costume and it was fun to watch the crowds at the mall part of us to come through. It was also great to see the looks on all the kid's faces. :)

I wore the full version of this costume at CN Anime 2004, and got a better reception than I dreamed. Everyone loved the costume -- especially little kids. I've never been in so many family photos in my life. XD

Overall, I adore the way this costume came out. It might be a little inaccurate, but it was so much fun to wear!
